Noomi Rapace

Noomi Rapace (born 28 December 1979 in Hundsvall, Sweden) is a Swedish actress best known for her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in the film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy of crime novels.
Her first acting experience was a small non-speaking role in Í skugga hrafnsins (1988; Shadow of the Raven). When she was 15, she returned to Sweden and studied theatre. He worked regularly on stage, in art cinema films and on television, notably in several episodes (1996-97) of the long-running TV series Tre kronor (‘Three Crowns’).
Rapace’s success, however, came with her masterful portrayal of the damaged but resilient hacker turned detective Lisbeth Salander in Larsson’s popular adaptations of the best-selling books. She transformed herself for the role – she got pierced (but not Salander’s famous tattoos), trained for several months in kickboxing and other martial arts, and learned to ride a motorcycle. The three films – Män som hatar kvinnor (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Flickan som lekte med elden (The Girl who played with fire) and Luftslottet som sprängdes (The Girl who kicked the hornet’s nest) – were made in succession and all were first released in 2009. Rapace’s success in embodying and expressing the inner life of a complex character who maintains a deliberately opaque facade has won her international praise from critics and fans alike.
In 2011 Rapace appeared in her first English-language film, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. She went on to have roles in the sci-fi thriller Prometheus (2012) and the crime dramas Dead Man Down (2013) and The Drop (2014). Her numerous credits since 2017 include the Netflix film Bright, an action drama set in a Los Angeles populated by humans and mystical creatures. Rapace then played a bank teller held captive in Stockholm (2018), a fictionalized version of the 1973 hostage crisis that gave her name to Stockholm Syndrome, and then a counterterrorism expert who protects an heiress in Close (2019), an action thriller inspired by the life of a celebrity bodyguard. Also in 2019, Rapace played a grieving mother stalking a family in Angel of Mine, and joined Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan TV series, portraying a German intelligence agent. In The Secrets We Keep (2020), she played a woman seeking revenge against a man she believes attacked and killed others during World War II.
Rapace’s 2021 titles include I onde dager (The Journey), an action thriller about a couple who go on a getaway to ostensibly improve their relationship, but in reality one of them plans to kill the other. That year he also starred in the horror drama Lamb, which focuses on a childless couple in Iceland who find a newborn baby. He later appeared in the post-apocalyptic films Svart krabba (Black Crab),You Won’t Be Alone (both 2022) and the Apple TV series Constellation (2024).
